It seems that in my field, the first few chapters are like this.. does this seem right?
chapter 1 - dissertation introduction what are the parts? chapter 2 - literature review this i know chapter 3 dissertation quantitative methodology or methods - can you think of anything additional to these subsections? * Research Design * Participants * Instrumentation * Research Procedures and Pilot Testing * Data Analysis * Assumptions of the Study * Limitations of the Study * Summary |

I was just responding on the other thread (here: writing chapter 5 in dissertation) that in my department the 1st chapter is usually the intro, 2-4th are substantive chapters and in them you would normally talk about the methods required for each chapter as if they are stand-alone articles. The 5th is usually the conclusion.

thanks guys - i asked around my dept and it seems folks are evenly spilit. Some say the dissertation should be like 3 articles. Others say it should take the shape of a book. I think the first is best b/c then you can try to publish from it.
