Can anyone tell me about online education? What is it? Who does it? Why people do it? What kind of technology is used for online distance learning? Actually I want to do some courses by distance learning and I don’t have much idea. Please help me in this matter.

distance learning is an expensive alternative way to "get an education". some schools offer online programs but have a legit day time program and assuming you graduate you, your diploma will simply say "University of XXXXX" and nothing about an online program. obviously schools like University of Phoenix carry a stigma for being lame online programs and if its your only option, then look for something legit and be prepared to write some fairly large checks (more so than you would if you were a daytime student).

Online education is an alternative way of education..Mostly people who are doing job use to do it because they don't want to leave their job and wanted a degree for their further development..
It is good in some courses but not in all..because in some courses you have to study it regularly and you need instructor for explaining.
So it will depend what type of course you are doing..

If you are a graduate of information technology, the most important information that an employer will look into your resume is the portfolio. The portfolio of web programmer are the websites he or she coded. The portfolio of a writer are the online article he or she has published.

Now that I work as virtual assistant in customer service company. My main portfolios are the companies and name of the person that I worked with together with their websites.
