Default Total brain freeze in addition to writers' block

I have one chapter done, but this second chapter has me so overwhelmed that I can't seem to function. I am totally freaking out. I am not only incapable of getting anything written, I also can't seem to absorb any information. People say just to sit down and write, but how can I write when I don't even have any thoughts? And this has been going on for a while.

Has anyone else had this problem or am I totally crazy? (It's okay to tell me if I am. It's always better to know.)

No you're not crazy at all. I have a couple of thoughts. First, I've found that when I have writers block it is usually because I haven't figured out what I actually want to say. I sat down to write but have trouble putting it into words since I haven't thought through the idea yet. My advice... that I give myself... is to step away from the computer and talk out loud about the various ideas. The second thought is that maybe you need a genuine break. You can't "sit down and write" every day all day. I used to think that I would just take breaks as I needed or deserved them. They were very sporatic. Now I take set breaks, for instance I never work on Sundays at all. I'm not religious, i just take that day off. I also never work on Wednesday nights because that's the night i get together with friends. If you try to work too much you will tire yourself out and you won't get anywhere.

You are also probably making it worse by kicking yourself about it. You think that no one goes through this when everyone actually does. They just don't admit or offer it. That's why forums like this are great. You can get real advice from people going through the same thing. In fact, I would NEVER tell other students about writers block when i was having it. My program is weirdly competitive and I just didnt' want to admit something like that. But here i will haha

I think everyone is bound to get writer's block at some point. I'm actually suffering right now, so I'm taking a couple days off and I'll get back to things on Thursday!
